Blighted by a government who's sold off all mining, Bolivia is the poorest of South American countries leading to a divided tourist opinion. Is it dangerous or easily accessible, manic our culturally rich, dirty or beautiful - we're firmly on the side of the positive.
Perched at such a ridiculous elevation that most cities have visitors struggling to climb stairs without losing breathe, Bolivia offers riches galore all for the lowest price on the continent (ignoring broken Venezuela). With natural wonders to rival it's more illustrious and globally famous neighbours, spending a month here as we did is easily achieved.
We were truly surprised by Bolivia and left feeling that we'd finally found South America's cultural sole. Our favourites are below, from sunrises over salt flats to perilous death road cycling it's all here:
