Marble Caves of Rio Tranquilo

Marble Caves of Rio Tranquilo

Catch the marble caves on a sunny day and you’re in for a treat.

Over many millions of years, the turquoise waters of Rio Tranquilo have carved their way into the limestone peninsula of Lago General Carrera, Chile and created Capillas De Mármol (marble caves).

Negotiate yourself a seat on a boat and relax while nature puts on a show.

DO IT

  • Head to the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it town of Rio Tranquilo, hit the jetty and negotiate a boat tour for around CLP$8,000 (AUS$9).

  • If you have the budget, seeing these by kayak would be incredible. At an outrageous CLP$35,000pp, we sadly couldn’t justify the cost.

EAT & DRINK

  • Unmissable - Cerveceria y Restaurant. Serving up a local Chilean dish, Chorrillanas, this is the best one we’ve had.

If I have to be a Chilaen farmer to eat this every day - so be it.
