The Finca at Minca
One near-death experience on a motorbike and I had arrived in Minca. A spectacular hideaway tucked up high in the Sierra Nevada mountains overlooking the Colombian coast. After a high energy three weeks of excess, Minca was a welcome and very necessary change of pace.
Queue instant nature immersion: big sunsets that drop over the mountain range and coastline, abundant bird life (over 350 varieties that will captivate your attention) and my favourite - coffee fincas (farms).
The lure of fresh brew was strong. So strong that we opted to stay at a third generation local coffee finca - La Candelaria. For over 100 years this delightful family has been growing and producing organic coffee. Operations have expanded to grow cacao plus 15 fruit plants and a resident rescue toucan, Touky. We're BFFs.
Take a private coffee and cacao tour, enjoy home cooked meals and have an outdoor shower overlooking the coast (seriously, it's boobs out for the birds) - sublime!
DO:
Hangout with La Candelaria's rescue Toucan, Toucky.
Take a coffee and cacao tour
Put on an organic cacao face mask (licking off optional)
Firm up the butts and thighs trekking around the Sierra Nevada mountain range
EAT & DRINK:
Food made by the family with love, and coffee from seed to cup at La Candelaria
The Lazy Cat in Minca town serves up wholesome food that is not fried! Phew.
Casa Lomo for hearty, fresh vegetarian food. You can stay here but the views from La Candelaria are WAY better
SLEEP:
La Candelaria - 3rd generation owned and run coffee farm. Beware of the 40min trek up the mountain to reach it. The motorbike may kill you. But you will not find a better view.
