Sherpa got promoted

After only a few short weeks into the great adventure, Sherpa has been given a promotion.

It turns out, carrying bags is not all that dear Sherpa is good at. While he has excelled at his carrying duties, closely resembling a pack mule, another useful skill has emerged - and it just happens to be something I am quite terrible at....budgeting.

Over the past week and a bit Sherpa has been overwhelmingly diligent recording the daily expenses.  Each day, he sits and ponders over each and every expense then carefully puts it into a marvellous little budget app. Clever Purse-Sherpa.

Day after day, we are coming seriously under budget - by more than AU$90 a day. And believe me - I'm trying to spend.

I've cottoned on to a smart technique Sherpa is using on me so I don't over-shop. He continues to remind 'lady-client' that her bag is 'very full lady, very heavy'. Of course I ignore these unhelpful remarks. But it must be having some effect.

That aside, I can't help but be impressed with his accounting skills and have promoted Sherpa. He now has more responsibility and is on a trial as Sherpa Executive. If he continues to do well with the budgeting, he may end up Sherpa Director by the end of the trip. I've made it clear that all these new tasks are in addition to his current responsibilities and should be seen as a way to progress his career.

A quarterly performance review with KPIs has been set and I'm confident he will exceed expectations. Is there a bell curve for which to judge sherpa work? I'm not entirely sure how to adequately remunerate him if he succeeds. Perhaps a pair of shoes?
